About Diana

I am a first-time author and former educator who has always loved storytelling because of its connection to learning, emotion, and, most importantly, love. I spent eleven years as a high school English teacher, helping students find their voice and a love for reading. With my background in education from Loyola Marymount University and a master’s degree in literacy and reading, I strongly believe that stories have the power to shape hearts and minds.

But my most meaningful story didn’t begin in a classroom—it began with a dog named Cali.

Cali was more than a pet; she was my “soul dog.” Our bond was immediate, deep, and life-changing. I had never believed in soulmates or love at first sight, until I met her. We connected in such a special way that she became not only my companion but also my greatest source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love. Tragically, Cali passed away just one month shy of her third birthday due to kidney disease. In the midst of that heartbreak, I desperately tried to find my footing and after a year of profound grief, I found my purpose: to honor Cali’s life in a way that could continue spreading love and connection to others.

That purpose became my first children’s book, Cali Comes Home, a heartfelt story designed to help young readers understand the special bond between humans and animals and the importance of rescuing.

What makes this journey extra special is the opportunity to honor Cali alongside her sister, Chloe, who is also featured in the book. She joins me in bringing these stories to life. Together, we visit schools, bookstores, and community events, creating meaningful, interactive experiences where children can connect stories to real-life relationships with dogs. As any dog lover can attest, dogs have a special way of connecting with children.

What makes Cali's legacy even more impactful is our mission beyond the page. The Soul Dog Book Series donates a portion of all proceeds to animal rescue organizations like the one that gave Cali and her mother a chance at life. Through writing, I hope not only to inspire children to read but also to teach them the importance of adoption, empathy, and giving back.

My goal is to spark joy, build literacy, and help others find their own “soul dog.”
